Tar Sands protest at Canadian Embassy: report.

Summary of today's Tar Sands demonstration

This morning at 9.30AM 200 people gathered outside the Canadian Embassy for a noisy protest against the way that Canada is blocking climate talks because of its plans to keep extracting dirty oi from the tar sands. 

Indigenous people from communities being devastated by the project spoke powerfully in opposition.  There was also suport from Naomi Klein and other international campaign partners.  All sang the song "Blame Canada". 

They then handed a "welcome basket" in to be given to the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, containing all the treaties being violated.  The road was then blocked by the unfurling of a huge banner.  The demo ended with a prayer from an indigenous elder.

At the same time, there was a simultaneous protest at the Canadian Embassy in London.
