Mens den socialdemokratiske overborgmester i hendes båltale Skt. Hans aften på Blågårds Plads foran nogle tusinde tilhørere erklærede, at hun var stolt af at have kunne give de unge et nyt ungdomshus på Dortheavej i Københavns Nordvestkvarter, vægtede hun hendes goodwill på en HELT anden måde i et interview, som for nyligt blev offentliggjort i politiforbundets blad ”Dansk Politi”.
- ” ...Det er sådan set derfor, vi har lagt så stor energi i at finde et nyt ungdomshus. Det har vi ikke gjort for at belønne de unge for deres hærgen. Slet ikke Jeg synes det var rasende ubehageligt. Heller ikke for at gøre grin med politiet. Vi har netop gjort det for, at politiet og samfundet ikke skal spilde tiden med gentagne gadekampe” , fortsætter Ritt Bjerregaard. Hun sukker, da hun selv foregriber det planlagte spørgsmål om ungdomshuset.
- ” Jeg synes, at politiets indsats var imponerende i forbindelse med rydningen af Jagtvej 69. Jeg har flere gange sagt tak. For de skal have en stor tak. Men jeg mener heller ikke, at vi skal spilde deres ressourcer ved bare at lade stå til og efterlade problemet på gaden, siger hun....”
