As the financial collapse signals the death of the neo-liberal era, a new political and economic project is needed to take capitalism out of crisis. Here, activist and writer Tadzio Muller argues that a project to create a ’green capitalism’ is an attempt to fill that gap. This project attempts to win popular support by taking the rhetoric of environmentalism but it is unable to solve the contradiction between capitalism’s endless need for expansion and our survival on a finite planet. Tadzio Muller argues that the real alternative to capitalism’s destruction of the natural world is to be found in the emerging global movement for climate justice, and its mobilisation against the COP15 in December.
